Our
Mission.

TO HELP THE PEOPLE IN
THE SOUTH WINSTON-SALEM AREA
COME TO know CHRIST, LIVE A LIFE OF
INTENTIONAL DEPTH IN CHRIST,
WALK THROUGH THIS LIFE SERVING CHRIST,
AND LEAVE THIS WORLD HAVING CHANGED IT
THROUGH THEIR DEVOTION TO CHRIST.

Our
Vision.

TO BE A SUBVERSIVELY HOSPITABLE, COURAGEOUSLY AUTHENTIC,
SOCIOECONOMICALLY AND ETHNICALLY DIVERSE FAITH COMMUNITY
THAT PROVIDES A SAFE SPACE FOR: OUR NEIGHBORHOOD,
THE HOMELESS OF WINSTON-SALEM, THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED CHURCH HURT, AND THOSE WHO ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT THESE GROUPS TO FIND THE LIFE (JOHN 10:10) OF HEALING, BELONGING, AND PURPOSE THAT CHRIST PROMISED US.

Our Values.

If Vision is "where we are going," and Mission is "what we are doing," then Values are "How we will get to where we are going and how we will do what we do." These are not a clever marketing gimmick. They are the fabric of who we are and how we want our culture to feel.

Subversive Hospitality + High Accountability

We want everyone to feel welcome. We want to be so welcoming that it strains the very fabric of society and the world around us because we welcome those who society and communities around us are overtly or tacitly unwilling to. This is why we say, Everyone is welcome. Everyone.

However, we also believe that not all behaviors, words, or actions are. We believe in the kind of accountability that is not judgement, but rather the kind that gives us the checks and perspective to strive to continue to get better

Truth-Telling

It may seem silly for a church to have a value statement on telling the truth; but if we're honest with ourselves, churches are among the worst at doing one of the very things Jesus says he represented -the Truth. We believe truth-telling, rigorous honesty, and refusing to hide who we are and how we are really doing serves as the light in any community, protecting it from darkness. At New Story we like to say, we wear no masks. We are not a community that is unwilling to tell you what you think or who hides who we really are or how we're really doing. We're also not a community who won't let you tell us what you really think or feel the need to hide how you're really doing.

Promise-keeping

What good is a community that does not keep its word? What good is a community that makes commitments to its people but does not keep those commitments? Part of the foundation of a life-giving community, the anchor that helps it weather storms together, is its reliability, especially when things are not going well and things are not easy. At New Story, we welcome everyone into the family, and once you're one of ours, you're always one of ours. We will show up for you, always.

Gratitude

We believe in being a people marked by gratitude instead of entitlement, thankfulness instead of expectation. No one wants to be part of a family of people who aren't thankful. Unthankful people are miserable people to be around; and Christians and churches tend to be among the least thankful and least gracious communities of people. We choose gratitude, everyday, every Sunday, every moment we think of it as a community.
